Description
This summer QLF Atlantic Center for the Environment is conducting a three-week fellowship program on land conservation and stewardship for conservation professionals from countries in the Gulf of Honduras. The program will run from 17 July to 5 August 2011 and will be practical and problem-solving in its approach, introducing participants to conservation issues in the northeastern United States and enabling them to begin a dialogue with their North American counterparts. The program will focus on coastal and marine conservation with site visits along the US side of the Gulf of Maine. The Fellowship's broad goals are to provide training and professional development for conservation leaders from the Gulf of Honduras, promote an exchange of ideas and innovations in the area of landscape/seascape conservation and stewardship, and strengthen the capacity of NGOs in both regions to conserve natural areas through stewardship. Through round-table discussions, site visits and workshops, participants will have the opportunity to share ideas with their counterparts, acquire new information and develop natural resource management skills. The Fellowship is supported by the Oak Foundation and the New England Biolabs Foundation.

I am looking forward to seeing you all in New England in a few days! I share some information about the town of Ipswich, MA. as you will be spending some of your time here. Ipswich is a small coastal town with a rich natural and cultural heritage (population today ~13,000). The coastline is a combination of marsh area and estuarine area that supports numerous commercial and recreational activities. Ipswich is probably most famous for it clams (Mya arenaria). Safe travels.
